A Journey Through the Valleys of Chile
Chile is a narrow strip of land that offers an incredible variety of microclimates. At WineToShip, we highlight the crown jewels of Chilean viticulture. The Maipo Valley is often called the "Bordeaux of South America," producing Cabernets with signature notes of eucalyptus and blackcurrant. Further south, the Colchagua Valley provides the warmth needed for lush Syrah and Malbec, while the Casablanca and Leyda Valleys use coastal fogs to craft world-class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
No exploration of Chile is complete without Carmenere. Once thought to be extinct in Bordeaux, this grape was rediscovered in Chile in the 1990s and has since become the national flagship. It offers a unique profile of raspberry, bell pepper, and cocoa. From everyday values to "Ultra-Premium" icons like Almaviva and Don Melchor, our collection brings the bold spirit of the Southern Hemisphere directly to your door.
Chilean Wine Guide & FAQ
What makes Carmenere unique?
Carmenere is Chile's signature red grape. It is known for its deep crimson color and savory profile. Expect flavors of dark plum and black cherry, accompanied by distinct herbal notes like green peppercorn and tobacco. It has softer tannins than Cabernet, making it very approachable.
Why is Chile considered a "winemaking paradise"?
Geographical barriers—the Atacama Desert to the north, the Andes to the east, and the Pacific to the west—protect Chile from many vine diseases. This allows for very "clean" winemaking and a high percentage of organic and sustainable vineyards.
What food pairs best with Chilean Cabernet?
Chilean Cabernets often have a slight minty or herbal "mountain" character. They pair exceptionally well with grilled lamb, herb-crusted steaks, and empanadas.
Are Chilean wines a good value?
Absolutely. Chile is widely considered to have the best price-to-quality ratio in the world. You can often find 90+ point rated wines from Chile at a fraction of the cost of similar quality bottles from Napa Valley or Bordeaux.
