Is it "Champagne" or "Sparkling Wine"?
Legally, only sparkling wine produced in the Champagne region of France using specific traditional methods and grapes can be called "Champagne." While Prosecco or Cava are excellent sparkling wines, they lack the unique chalky soil and aging requirements that define Champagne.
What is "Grower Champagne"?
Grower Champagne (indicated by 'RM' on the label) is produced by the same estate that grows the grapes. Unlike the big "Maisons" that buy grapes from across the region, Grower Champagnes are often more "terroir-focused" and artisanal in style.
How should I store my Champagne?
Store bottles horizontally in a cool, dark place with a consistent temperature (around 55°F). Avoid light exposure, as Champagne is particularly sensitive to "light strike," which can ruin the delicate flavors.
What does "Brut" mean?
Brut is the most common sweetness level for Champagne, meaning "dry." It contains very little residual sugar (less than 12g/L). If you prefer something sweeter, look for Extra Dry or Demi-Sec.
