Made with 40% Sangiovese, 30% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc, La Chiazza represents one of the greatest value Super Tuscans in the market today. The winery is a few hundred meters from Tolaini in the heart of Castelnuovo Berardenga, and the winemaker and president of the estate is Alessandro Cellai, formerly of Castellare and Rocca di Frasinello. Today this is his only project.
The vineyards are located on the beautiful hill of PIEVASCIATA facing south-west. Grapes are carefully selected after two green harvests and vinified in stainless steel in the gravity fed winery, 80% of which is underground. The wine is then aged in French oak 225 liter barrels, 25% new, for 18 months. This is followed by 10 months of aging in bottle before release.
"This is dark-fruited with lots of spice, hints of leather and wet forest floor. Full-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Firm and textured with savory fruit character and polished finish with earthy notes."
